Article about Lennie Soo

Text from the article:

. . . A freak home accident
Lennie Soo Mei Yoke, 46, freelance, clinical hypnotherapist and counselor

What happened Late one night in 2006, Lennie walked to her husband who was watching television in their bedroom and sat on her gym ball to talk to him. The ball suddenly rolled backwards, making her lose balance. Falling backwards, she was trapped between her wardrobe as the ball rammed her forcefully against her chin. The impact broke her neck almost entirely.

Against the odds They had no idea how severe her injuries were so they rushed to the hospital, but her fingers were tingling and she couldn't lift her arms. Despite being in the Intensive Care Unit for a week, she steeled herself to sit for her exams in clinical hypnotherapy. she forced herself to write 30 pages of essays - and passed. Her doctors warned that she might be bedridden, but she made it a point to continue with physiotherapy. Within seven months, she was almost back to normal, despite having a slightly hunched back. "There were days when I was depressed and wanted to give up. So I had to keep motivating myself, first by insisting I go ahead with my exams and later by telling myself I had to recover," she shares.

What saved her Doctors say the only thing that kept her alive was her calmness. "Immediately after the incident, I put myself into a hypnotic state of mind. If I had panicked or moved rashly, I'd have broken the last tendon holding my head to the rest of my body. During recovery, I told myself to disassociate with the pain and fear, and to just keep moving on," says Lennie.
